Mothers Out Front

Mothers Out Front is a movement of mothers, grandmothers and others who bring their passion for children’s well-being to advance concrete solutions that lead to a livable climate for all. We combine a proven organizing framework with the fierce determination of mothers fighting for our children.

Our members are winning real victories: 

• municipal commitments to eliminate fossil fuels from new construction 

• school districts transitioning from diesel to electric school busses 

• community choice energy in some of the largest cities in the country.

Build a movement across race and class:  Our movement centers on a commitment to climate justice. We focus on the injustices faced by those communities who suffer the impacts of climate change and fossil fuel use today, and who have been historically marginalized.  We are dedicated to recruiting and developing leaders in the communities most often harmed by fossil fuels.  These communities are often low-income and communities of color. The leaders in these communities build campaigns based on the issues most important to them.

Grow existing campaigns while building national power.  We build power locally, winning concrete victories while ensuring the unique voice of mothers is heard loud and clear at the national level. We do this through participation in the Green New Deal and Environmental Justice conversations, our continued involvement in the youth movement, support for economic justice, and our labor allies.

Civic engagement: Mothers Out Front is expanding our work to ensure that climate is a priority issue in the 2020 elections. We can bring not only new voices but new voters into this work.  Our local organizing experience has shown that devastating weather, related to climate change, is spurring voters to think of climate as less partisan, and more urgent. We will bring the unique voice of mothers to create a transformative legislative agenda to act on climate change in 2021.
